As a Senior Vice President and Principal in the Kansas City office, Terry provides a broad range of actuarial knowledge to his clients. With more than 25 years in the life insurance company and consulting environment, his experience ranges from the traditional actuarial activities such as product development, reinsurance, statutory valuation, modeling and cash flow testing to more non-traditional activities such as regulatory consulting and expert testimony. Terry started the Kansas City office’s regulatory practice in the late 1980’s by providing the actuarial reviews in connection with the Michigan Insurance Bureau’s triennial examinations. Today, that practice has grown to include a number of state insurance departments who rely on L&E to provide them with professional actuarial advice. His recent activities have centered on providing actuarial valuations in connection with class action settlements. Terry has become one of the leading and respected experts in this area. Both regulatory consulting and expert testimony require strong communication skills with non-actuaries. Since beginning his career as an actuarial student with a professional reinsurer, many of his work-related activities have been with non-actuaries. In his role as an expert witness, many of those in his audience have little or no insurance knowledge. His ability to communicate actuarial and technical issues to non-actuaries and others without insurance knowledge is one reason Terry is regarded as a national authority in the settlement arena. In addition to being an FSA and MAAA, he is an Associate Member of the Society of Financial Examiners.
