Mahak Agarwal was always interested in numbers and problem-solving, making the mathematical field an obvious choice for her career. While her parents initially hoped she would follow in their footsteps and become a chartered accountant, she never truly felt connected to it. Her sister introduced her to the world of actuarial science, and she knew that was the right path to take.
"My interest in consulting developed gradually," she said. "I've always been someone who enjoyed solving technical problems, but at the same time, I enjoy collaborating with others, understanding their challenges, and helping them find solutions, which consulting presents to you every day."
Finding Her Perfect 9-to-5
Mahak brought her skills to Lewis & Ellis, joining as an Associate Actuary and then getting promoted to a Consulting Actuary. The company initially drew her in due to the collaborative culture between U.S. and India teams and the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects.
She started in 2024, diving headfirst into various types of projects and saying yes to all kinds of work, even when it was outside her comfort zone. Her drive to improve and deliver meaningful work has been evident time and again through strong results and measurable client improvements.
"One of the biggest rewards is the sense of satisfaction it brings at the end of the day knowing my analysis and insights have contributed toward solving a business problem or helping clients make more informed decisions," she said.
Centered on Growth and Problem-Solving
When she first started at Lewis & Ellis, her role was focused on the technical side of the work. However, as she's flourished, she's gradually taken on more ownership by managing projects, coordinating and guiding team members, and interacting more closely with clients.
A large part of her day involves planning work, allocating tasks to the appropriate team members, solving challenges that they may face, while also handling the work that requires her direct attention. Apart from her technical work, she can be found in regular team discussions and client meetings, brainstorming next steps and pinpointing solutions.
"Looking ahead, I see myself continuing to grow into a stronger leadership role where I can contribute toward building client relationships and driving meaningful business impact," Mahak added.
She has now completed the demanding actuarial exams, balancing these tests with her consulting career. As she continues growing in the actuarial sector, she's excited about all the learning opportunities that Lewis & Ellis gives her, pushing her to soar to new heights.
