As a Senior Vice President and Principal in the Kansas City office, Terry provides a broad range of actuarial knowledge to his clients. With more than 45 years in the life insurance company and consulting environment, his experience ranges from traditional actuarial activities such as product development, reinsurance, statutory valuation, modeling and cash flow testing to more non-traditional activities such as regulatory consulting and expert testimony.  For more than 25 years, Terry has provided actuarial valuations in connection with class action settlements as well as provided expert testimony in other insurance-related cases. Both regulatory consulting and expert testimony require strong communication skills with non-actuaries. His ability to communicate actuarial and technical issues to non-actuaries is one of Terry’s strengths.  Terry has been a frequent speaker at industry meetings and has been an active volunteer with the Society of Actuaries. He previously served on the SOA’s Board of Directors.  He can be reached at 913-484-8332.

Upcoming/Recent Professional Activities

7/2014 Making A Difference - Featured in the SOA News Today July 2014 Issue 2 Terry Long was quoted in the "SOA 2013 Year In Review" on his volunteer experiences. “My volunteer ‘career’ started over 10 years ago when I was elected to the Smaller Insurance Company Section Council. Since then I have been relatively active to very active. Volunteering has been a fantastic avenue for meeting people. I have had the opportunity to meet and work with many people I would not have otherwise met. It is also a confidence and skill builder. Volunteer activities can be as large or as small as you like, from serving on a program committee to being a Friend of a section council to presenting at a meeting. My advice is to just do something.” —TERRY LONG, FSA, MAAA5/2014 Gave a presentation on Session 75 - Risk Management and Governance of New Product Development with Chuck Bremer, FSA, MAAA of Nationwide Financial and Jason Hiquet, FSA, CERA of Deloitte Consulting at the 2014 Life and Annuity Symposium which was held in Atlanta, GA.10/2013 Moderator and facilitator at the SOA 2013 Annual Meeting & Exhibit's Session 129 Buzz Group:  Current Topics Impacting the Smaller Insurance Company in San Diego, CA on October 21-23.  Discussion will range from the impact of the existing economic situation to the state of regulation.5/2013 Program Committee Chair for the SOA's 2013 Life & Annuity Symposium which was held in Toronto.
