Hi there. Welcome back to the Lewis and Ellis video blog.
Americans generally understand that they pay a lot for health care – more than ten thousand dollars per person each year, on average. That adds up to about three point five trillion dollars a year, and the number is rising.
An aging population, rising costs, more complicated health services and more play a role, especially because the vast majority of Americans get their insurance through an employer.
Those companies have expectations for even more price increases – especially for prescription drugs and behavioral health – in the next five years.
One recent study found roughly half of all U.S. health care expenditures are attributed to five percent of patients.
These trends are something for those in the insurance and health care industries to monitor closely in the years ahead. Thanks for watching.
